Set off to discover the Highlands of Madagascar, a region rich in cultural and natural heritage. This 4-day tour will take you through terraced rice fields, picturesque villages, green rolling hills and volcanic lakes, while immersing you in local life.
Observe the emblematic Indri Indri, explore artisan markets, and enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the mountainous landscapes of the island’s central region. An authentic and comfortable journey, ideal for lovers of nature and Malagasy culture.
Early morning departure from Antananarivo to Andasibe (about 3h30 by road). Along the way, admire the typical Highland scenery: terraced rice paddies, verdant hills and traditional villages.
Upon arrival, enjoy a guided visit of Analamazaotra Park, a sanctuary of biodiversity. You will have the chance to observe the Indri Indri, the largest lemur in Madagascar, as well as other lemur species, chameleons, endemic frogs, and a luxuriant flora composed of wild orchids, giant ferns and century-old trees.
In the late afternoon, a night walk will give you the opportunity to discover nocturnal wildlife: small frogs, geckos and fascinating insects. The guide will share stories about the unique ecosystem of the tropical rainforest.
Hotel: Vakona Lodge or similar
After a hearty breakfast, departure for Antsirabe (about 5 hours by road). You will cross mountains, terraced rice fields and picturesque villages, passing by local markets and artisan workshops.
Upon arrival, visit Lakes Andraikiba and Tritriva, two volcanic lakes with turquoise waters, ideal for walking and photography. You will discover local legends and the surrounding vegetation.
Then, enjoy a stroll through the streets of Antsirabe to visit the artisan workshops: zebu horn miniatures, jewelry, embroidery and traditional crafts. You will also see the famous colorful rickshaws in the historic center.
Hotel: Couleur Café or similar
After breakfast, depart for Ampefy (about 3 hours by road), with a visit to Lake Itasy, surrounded by volcanic hills and rural villages. Your guide will explain the geological and cultural history of the region.
Next, visit the Lily Waterfalls, a spectacular site where you can hike and swim in the natural pools. Explore the trails around the waterfalls, perfect for observing birds and endemic flora.
In the afternoon, continue to Antananarivo (about 4h30), enjoying panoramic views of rice fields and mountains. Arrival at the hotel and Malagasy gourmet dinner to end the day.
Hotel: Relais des Plateaux or similar
The day begins with a visit to the Rova (Queen’s Palace), a historical and cultural symbol of Madagascar. Then, explore Ambohimanga, a royal and spiritual site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering exceptional panoramic views over the surrounding hills and recounting the history of the Malagasy kings.
Continue through the old districts and colonial monuments, discovering historic architecture, churches, and significant buildings. The visit ends at the Digue artisan market, ideal for buying souvenirs such as spices, wooden crafts, jewelry, and traditional textiles.
